I'm gonna be starting all these topics just you wait.
So first I'm excited we're going to see more of Adelaide, because she's cool and everything but she was only in two of the three parts in GW and it's no secret she is my FAVORITE. So I want to see my baby grow up. What I'm really hope we get to see is how she becomes the cool suave captain who's got all this influence and power because it seems like when Maaya meets her she's already really familiar with her crew and sailing and battling and she calls in all these favors and everything and I want to know HOW. Plus just getting to know more about the Blackfins in general because they're super cool and super secretive and everything. Also, her family?? We read that she basically started sailing to get away from them but when we meet them they seem so chill and nice so I wonder what we're missing there, I hope we get more of Adelaide's family. (Just more of her in general please.)
Then on Maaya's side I'm sure we're going to see how she meets the kids and everything but I don't know exactly where that starts either, except from the preview we got I know she isn't friends with Saber yet so THIS MEANS we get to see them meet! I want to see more stuff about libris too like how she starts learning it and becomes the cool kid she is when we meet her. I have so many QUESTIONS. Like before she and her friends are the ghost hunters, what are they DOING there? What's their life like? How do people start calling her Ghost? There was so much hinted at but that we didn't get to see.
What do we think?
Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#2Definitely want to see more about the Blackfins. Since we only really get to see things from Maaya's perspective we don't get to see as much of them as I wanted to. All we know is that they're a pretty far-reaching organization with apparently a lot of power behind them. Either that or Adelaide is just really influential herself by that point and holds a lot of sway, and if that's the case I also want to know how that came to be. I love stories like what I think we're going to get from her (Seafire was a big favorite for me recently) so if we get four years of that I will be so happy.
Then there's Rahu, and I want to know how a girl like Maaya gets mixed up with someone like him. I remember her telling Adelaide that Rahu was even nice at first when all we know of him is that he's a huge piece of shit. Not that I think he couldn't force her to work for him or something but I want to know how this very poor and streetsmart girl gets involved with a super rich ambitious man. Maaya has always been secretive about being able to see ghosts so how would Rahu even find out to use her in the first place? I wonder if he knew Maaya from a young age or something, but I'd want to know that context.
Otherwise? More magic, more ghost fights, and especially more pirates. The battle with the Selenthians was one of my favorite scenes in the entire book and I need so much more of that lol. Especially if Skarin shows up, which he must because he and Adelaide are friends! Give me the dead bitter captain with a huge battleship and ghost crew who's got a soft spot for the teenage magician who teases him lol.
One thing I know has to be in there but I can't wait to see anyway is the friendship building between Maaya and Saber. They have such a good relationship and their dialogue gets hilarious and I love their dynamic. I want to see how they get to where they are when we meet them.

YES. I actually really like Skarin, I know there's good reasons not to or at least to not want to talk to him, but I really like him. I want to see how they meet. Oh and so much more about Adelaide too, like from the short story at least we know she's been through a lot so I wonder if we'll get to see some of it.
What I'm curious about is how many new characters there will be, if there are any. I kind of assume there has to be because this is four years long but how many can we meet knowing that they won't show up in GW?
Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#4Oh dude I'm not ready to find this out lol. Rahu is such a piece of shit and we're going to have to spend YEARS with him potentially. Maaya's such a sweet kid so however this starts it can't be pretty. I guess he wouldn't treat the others badly though? Since they never seem to realize what he's actually like, only Kim seems to start figuring it out near the very end.Hannah wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2019 7:17 amThen there's Rahu, and I want to know how a girl like Maaya gets mixed up with someone like him. It's going to be interesting though because I'm pretty sure Adelaide's half is going to have her sailing around the world while Maaya's half only takes place in a small town so that's going to be kind of cool.
I'm not ready for this either LOL. Yeah we barely get to see any of Adelaide's trauma in GW and all the supplemental stuff, we just know it exists (and it's still pretty bad too if GS is any indication). Plus this series isn't afraid to get dark, GW was like "Oops let me just accidentally half the whole cast in part one alone" so anything can happen and I'm not sure I like that lmao.
Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#5Oh no Skarin is really cool. I loved that his backstory was a good enough explanation for his actions but it was also totally understandable that Maaya was like "Uh fuck this guy." He's totally the protective dad of the ocean though LOL.Isabelle wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 6:10 pmHannah wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2019 7:17 amOtherwise? New characters though? Probably a few, there has to be. Probably more on Adelaide's end. Oh, but we finally get to see David, and I want to look for all the easter eggs that once again prove he just travels the entire universe and bothers everyone lolllll. Except he was actually kind of cool in The Editor?? I don't know what happened there.
Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#6Yes! I feel like he's always keeping an eye on Adelaide, or that's the impression I got. Like not only did he have time to see the fleet coming when he first showed up, he had time to get one of his own. Unless he was putting it together for some other mischievous reason and then he saw Adelaide in trouble? Either way they seem really close somehow, and I really need to know how this happens.Hannah wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 1:10 pmOh no Skarin is really cool. I'm trying to think how I'll react to this too, because they're so different but I'm also not sure which side I'm more excited to read. Like yeah traveling the world was really cool, but so was just wandering Sark at night and fighting ghosts or sneaking out to meet Styx or something. They both felt exciting in their own way. If I remember right it's going to switch perspectives? That will keep it fun, except I know how GW liked to end some chapters on cliffhangers so I'll be tempted to skip!Jade Lorn wrote:It's going to be interesting though because I'm pretty sure Adelaide's half is going to have her sailing around the world while Maaya's half only takes place in a small town so that's going to be kind of cool.Hannah wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2019 7:17 amThen there's Rahu, and I want to know how a girl like Maaya gets mixed up with someone like him. Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#7Sark felt pretty big, which I guess makes sense if you're trying to explore a whole town on foot. Then at the end to me it felt small which I guess is the point, like Sark goes from being Maaya's whole life to just one small place. The perspective thing I KNOW is going to frustrate me lol. Not in a BAD way but just what you said. It was bad enough in GW where I had to keep reading just one more chapter, now there are going to be two separate stories going on!Isabelle wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 5:40 amI'm trying to think how I'll react to this too, because they're so different but I'm also not sure which side I'm more excited to read. I'm pretty sure he was a Blackfin? Or he was super familiar with them because he knew enough to complain about how Emil was dressed lol. If so that could explain a lot, the higher ups seem to have all sorts of power, like Adelaide being able to just call in favors to influence her country's government, to get a bunch of ships to come with her to get revenge on Rahu, have dudes show up at her family party to keep reporters away, stuff like that. So Skarin probably has some pull somehow. Maybe it's that or people see the Nocte Cadenza and just decide not to argue LOL.Isabelle wrote:Yes! I don't think he was a Blackfin, if I remember right he did some time with the Krethan navy but that was it. It was probably after his death that he got more involved with stuff like that. After he gets to know Adelaide he'll learn some no matter what. So as cool as it would be I don't think he has anything to do with Adelaide's Blackfins influence, but he IS a great ally to have during a battle at sea lol.
Isabelle, to your point about him having his own ships ready to help Adelaide, I assume it was for some nefarious thing. We already know he likes attacking random Selenthian ships. But then they go off on their own after the battle. This makes me think that Skarin was hanging around Selenthia, saw the fleet launching off and decided he felt like fighting them head to head with a fleet of his own. The captain of the other ship that Maaya fires the cannon from seemed like she was an officer, so maybe they shared his want for revenge. THEN this makes me think there's a possibility that there's a port out there somewhere where it's just a bunch of ghost ships where dead people meet up and have a chat and I would love for that to be real lol. ANYWAY. I'm pretty sure he had decided to attack the Selenthians before he even knew they were after Adelaide, but once he saw her ship in those waters he probably guessed. It took him off course anyway, I don't think he would have taken his fleet into the dead zone otherwise. I could see him wanting that fight because it would be more exciting than attacking random ships, it was probably the first big fleet to launch in decades.
Also, I'm surprised Jade hasn't posted about this first, but we have a release date now. September 2nd, which is a Wednesday it looks like? Weird day for a release but I'll take it.
Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#9I WAS ON VACATION YOU DOOFUS.
I saw the news yesterday so I'm all good now but I hit that preorder so fast. It's kind of late in the year but I'll take it! It will have been almost three years since Ghost Walk and I'm ?? since when did time pass so fast.
I think he was preparing for something yeah and defending Adelaide was a surprise because I remember the rest of his fleet didn't show up until the last minute, it was really close. If they had intercepted later it wouldn't have been a big deal but Adelaide was stuck so he had to. I just wonder what he was doing with a fleet THAT size. It was smaller than the Selenthians sure but I wonder if he was going to go after Levien? He probably wouldn't be attacking trade routes with that much power and Levien was where the fleet came out of.

Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#10I just thought of something. In Ghost Walk we didn't get to see things from Adelaide's point of view, it was Maaya the whole time. But with the way I think this book is structured we're going to get her perspective too, which is really interesting because we're going to see how her brain works and get her inner dialogue and everything. I'm really excited for that. Adelaide is such a badass character and I want to know what's going on in her head lol. Especially her character development? Since she goes from being this shy girl to this incredibly confident and blunt character who takes charge of a ship and then later a whole fleet.
Also we get to see why everyone hates David so much LOL.

Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#11Oh that's right, I forgot about that. That's going to be really neat! I almost don't want it if only because there's a really attractive quality to the mystery behind this super confident powerful woman and this will kind of spoil the mystery (but I'm definitely looking forward to it anyway).
I don't know if they hated David, they just seemed to think he was kind of boring? I thought they were mostly teasing when it came to leaving without him, even if that's a little mean. But also... it's David, I think that's all we need to know.

Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#12I think it will help because when we're in GW and we don't have her perspective anymore we're going to have so much more to work with when reading her character and her actions and stuff.
That kind of reminds me of something I've been thinking about. It's always neat going back in a book and figuring out what little hints were dropped about what was happening later, and with this book we'll get to do that even more. I'm sure there are going to be little "AHA" moments that explain things in GW and I'm excited for that.
The other thing though is I realized it's going to make GW hurt even more now. I mean we know Maaya spends years with the kids before the events of GW and then we know what happens to them in part one. It was bad enough after only that long, but now we're going to have (maybe) a full book with them in it and I will not be able to stop thinking about what happens to them.

Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#13Dude... that's going to suck. I'm not ready for that. For ME though, this book is going to have to try REALLY hard to beat the saddest moment ever for me, which was when Maaya had to use her blood cards on Saber and her dad. That fucking killed me. Now we're going to see more years of their friendship and that's going to hurt even more too. But who knows, now that we're getting Adelaide's side of the story and we'll almost 100% get to see some of the shit that made her who she is, maybe we'll get that moment.Hannah wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 7:24 amThe other thing though is I realized it's going to make GW hurt even more now. Also I am impatient as shit I can't wait for this to drop. I legit am thinking of sleeping in the day before so when midnight hits I'll be ready to go.
Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#14I have to assume we're going to get some heartbreaking moments. It wasn't like GW only had one that the whole story built up to, they were kind of throughout the whole book. Even in GS and Recovery there was some. There has to be some for both of them. Mostly though I just want answers for all the stuff we saw hinted at in GW that we never got to see or that never got touched on again. I can't stop thinking about Maaya getting involved with Rahu and I'm just so curious how. I almost wonder if it started out with him trying to adopt her or something, or promising that he would? Since she said he was nice at first. Did she know the other kids at the time? If they came after she met him how did they not know what he was like? I have so many questions lol.Jade wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 5:01 amDude... that's going to suck. I'm not ready for that. Do we know how long this one's going to be, too? I remember something like it was going to be just as big as GW but I don't think the first draft was/is done so I'm not sure if it was a meme lol.
Re: Predictions/things you want in Moon and Flame (spoilers probably?)
#15I think Maaya only mentioned working for him, if he trapped her by trying to adopt her or saying he would, I feel like she would have mentioned that. Though she never seems to make a big deal about her family situation, she's kind of matter of fact about it and mostly just thought the orphanage was bad. So maybe if Rahu did try that it wouldn't cut her deep or anything, you know? I don't know if that would be something he could use against her.
