Oh that's right and I bet you got an ARC again this time didn't you BECKY. Love to hear it though!

#47Dude after you apparently got exclusive insider info about TDS months in advance you never get to complain again.
Now that I'm done with TDS though I'm getting excited about this one, it's out in five DAYS. Arty said summer was going to be busy and damn is it ever. From what I see on Amazon if that's right, it's noticeably longer than book 2... where tf has she gotten all this energy from rofl.

#48Maybe it's because I haven't been bothering her as much so she's had more energy to focus on other things.... no, no that probably isn't it.Lindsay wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 1:32 amDude after you apparently got exclusive insider info about TDS months in advance you never get to complain again.

Anyways I got my copy I'M GOING IN LADS DON'T WAIT UP.
Re: Fairfield Frightless
#49I got up to chapter 5 and met Evarea and Echonore. They're already my favorite characters in the whole book and if they end up being the villains I will fight Arty in real life. I'm gonna read more tonight. Also, Ana volunteering to fight Poseidon, then seeing Didrixe in a bathing suit for the first time and glitching out. Then when the sirens do show up the book makes it plain how deadly they are, and then Ana immediately starts goading them into telling the story?? Like girl do you have a death wish.
I love the new intimidating guy showing up and glaring at them and most of the group is like "yikes what a weirdo, should we do something?" and meanwhile Laurent and Ana are both like "I'm going to fight this man immediately." One of these days these two are going to fight together and it's going to be great.

Re: Fairfield Frightless
#50This is how I feel exactly. I love them a LOT and I love how much they enjoy teasing the kids and know there's nothing the kids can do about it. The whole "We wanted to terrify you and then say hello," I love them so much. And them being disappointed that Ana didn't fall in the water so they just splash her until she's drenched anyway. Then troll her and make her apologize because it makes her mad but she has no choice. But you're also exactly right about Ana, the sirens keep showing off how deadly they are and Ana keeps being like, "ok but how far can I push their boundaries" ajkhsdf. Even one of them was like "I like you because you're daring but you need to be careful girl, we can and have killed people."Lindsay wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 2:42 pmI got up to chapter 5 and met Evarea and Echonore. One moment in the book got me tearing up already. When Didrixe tells Ana they need to talk about why Ana is upset and Didrixe just has this BEAUTIFUL reply where she's saying yeah I'm sure your memories of me in danger are scary, but I want you to think of me as a source of strength and not fear. I can't remember it all, I'm going to go back to it, but it was just so so sweet. Whenever these two have a moment together it's just the cutest most wholesome thing. We called it though, book 3 is like a reverse of book 2, where Didrixe felt stronger and Ana felt more doubt, which is also a flip of book 1 kinda? So now they're in this situation BUT they had this talk, and I like that they had this talk early on to address her doubt so it's not a thing for the rest of the story. I don't think I would have liked it if Didrixe and Ana's positions were switched through the whole book, I want to see the crazy human doing crazy things because she's so motivated to solve a mystery.
Re: Fairfield Frightless
#51Ana and the sirens are my favorite. That part where she meets them when she's running, then later when they ask for motivation with a big favor and she pulls the "it'd make the guy you hate really mad" and it works. Then later where she's offering to help keep them safe inside the cabin and offers to fill up the fucking bathtub for them LOL. Honestly Ana in general is a goddamn champ. She fought zombies with Laurent, she marched right up to Brelekai in town EVEN AFTER suspecting he was responsible for their attack and is super blunt with him, I just like how straightforward she is. Some of it is because she's kind of socially awkward and just knows how to be direct (but in a different way than say Adelaide) but it's also because she has this really strong sense of justice and is really protective of her loved ones. Didrixe keeps having to hold her back in different scenes and it's cute.Isabelle wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 7:15 pmThis is how I feel exactly. I had to stop, I didn't get to the big reveal yet but it's in the next chapter, the chapter I just read ended with Ana having a revelation so it's coming. I think I know who it is but I still have some questions about it even if I'm right. Like wtf is this stake thing. That's the one thing that has me feeling doubts because it mentions sirens (which I don't think are the bad guys) and uses "her" when the person I think is the bad guy is a dude. Then there's Corana's backstory, which isn't like a main plot detail I have questions about, but I feel like there's more to it than JUST explaining more about her, idk. Either way damn I am loving this book though. I'm gonna finish tomorrow!
Re: Fairfield Frightless
#52I GOT MY WISH. Ana and Laurent throwing hands in the graveyard fighting off zombies fuck yeah! Ana is a lot more aggro in this book and I kinda get it because after her talk with Didrixe she's feeling more inspired but also wants to make sure her loved ones don't get hurt again, but also damn girl CHILL. (Or don't actually.)Lindsay wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 2:42 pmI love the new intimidating guy showing up and glaring at them and most of the group is like "yikes what a weirdo, should we do something?" and meanwhile Laurent and Ana are both like "I'm going to fight this man immediately." I feel like I know who it is too but I'm also not sure because of a few different things. I feel like I know who it ISN'T because there's one character who's as sus as can possibly be so that probably means it's not him lol. But if it's not then wtf is he doing and why is he such a dick. I did get a laugh from them sneaking into the restricted section of the library where Laurent discovers what elephants are after describing them in the creepiest way possible and everyone is horrified, Vixel is like "how do humans survive" and then Laurent is like "gonna show this to October because she doesn't have enough phobias." Then tripping the fairy magic and the whole library coming alive and attacking them was fun. I'm gonna try to finish this weekend.

Re: Fairfield Frightless
#53I'M DONE. I have some thoughts but I am so hyped because of the last chapter.
Ok FIRST. The kids and their friends fighting the zombies in the final fight. So good. I love how Didrixe hesitated and then decided she didn't have it in her to shoot the zombies, but the instant Ana was in danger she sent arrows right between the bad guy's eyes and into his throat without hesitation. Girl had the eyes of a killer for the guy threatening her girlfriend. Then Ana literally headbutting the guy in the face when he tried to hold her wrists to stop her from punching him. Laurent beating the ever loving shit out of the dude once he got back and throwing him to the sirens. AND THE SIRENS. I'm genuinely sad we had to say goodbye to them, they are my favorite side characters in the series now. And I was right about who the bad guy was but not WHO he was in relation to the dead guy everyone was looking for. That took me by surprise.
Then there's the stake, and combined with the last chapter of the book, I feel like the books are all building toward something big. The stake felt kind of like a loose end and then they have that conversation where it's like oh, that's on purpose. Then talking about fate and how making sure things go according to fate isn't the same thing as making things good or bad. I'm so curious because now I know there's another book coming, so I wonder what else we'll see.
That part in the final chapter where Ana marches up to Laurent's parents and almost tells them off, just without hesitation, I fucking love her. She's unhinged in the best way.
Then finally.... the preview of the next book. GUYS. A halloween carnival kingdom! It sounds like a whole book set in a halloween town and that just sounds like the best thing ever. It sounds like the Hidden Moon will play a big role too which is exciting. Things are ramping up and I'm excited because it definitely feels like there are some buildups to something big and I want to know what it is. But this for sure is my favorite book of the series so far. The atmosphere was great, Evarea and Echonore are national treasures and must be protected at all costs, and it was really fun. Kinda sad about Brelekai and I couldn't help but notice Sephete didn't mention him at all, the disrespect LOL. But it makes me wonder if whatever weapon he was going to get was coming from the Hidden Moon. He was a jerk and I kinda respect it, he didn't "come around" at the end, he stayed a jerk to the end but he was consistent in what he was doing and stood up for the kids to the point where he was killed helping them.

Re: Fairfield Frightless
#54Damn this book was fun. I almost have to dock a point for the very end because it got me so excited for the next book that it distracted me from this one lol. First thing though is I think you're right, there's something being built up toward. I kinda want to go back through the other two books to see if there are any more clues or things left unresolved. Maybe that's what we're supposed to think though and there isn't actually anything after all, maybe the stake was just supposed to throw us off or make us think the twins were the bad guys. I almost wanted it to be the twins, because I love them so much and making them the bad guys would hurt so bad lol.
Ana is a bamf, and I really just love how all the kids have come around. They're all so different personality wise and at the start of the series barely any of them knew each other but now they're all in this together, they all agree they want to keep solving mysteries and shit. I like how Vixel is part of the team now, everyone just accepts her as one of their own rather than the supervisor or something. And she still goes from being deadly in one scene to a total dork in the next, like in one scene she's holding back the guy who has the protection of a void god by blasting him with her power, the next minute she's stealing her sister's food and then regretting it because it's too spicy and her sister has to help her rofl.
This is what I want to see though. As fun as the accidentally stumbling into mysteries is, I want to see what they can do when they try it out on purpose. You're telling me we'll get to see them acting officially, and we get to see The Hidden Moon, and it's all happening in a book with a Halloween carnival kingdom and they're meeting/helping the queen? Fuck yeah dude. Shame it won't be ready by this Halloween, or maybe it will lol god knows Arty has been just churning out content ever since FF1.

Re: Fairfield Frightless
#55I know what you mean! I'm glad it wasn't, because what if that lets them show up in the future?? They probably know more about the stake or will be able to say why it's relevant, if it actually is. I feel like it has to. Not just because the sisters asked about it but because they had that conversation about fate and how it turned out Wilfred's prophecy was specifically about the stake. The kids were SUPPOSED to find it and probably break it, so if it turns out that it had nothing to do with the mystery right there, then they'll probably have to revisit it. I hope that means seeing the sirens again, they were some good content.Lindsay wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 3:42 amDamn this book was fun. I went looking too because i was looking for the moment they figured out more about what the thing in the lake was, and there were a few different moments, but I found probably my favorite quote in the whole book which is "The eldritch horror is just some guy?" It doesn't end up being true but still it's just fucking funny LOL.
Speaking of things that are building up though I wonder what you guys think about Corana's backstory, because apparently someone literally took her voice when she was born and that's a mystery that was just apparently never solved, so I wonder if one of the next books will be about finally solving the mystery of who did that. There had to be a reason there were several pages dedicated specifically to that story.
Re: Fairfield Frightless
#56This was my favorite book hands down. Maybe it's because of the season and it's sort of a scary story but I really liked it. Evarea and Echonore were the best and I'm really sad we didn't get to see more of them, but I didn't even think about the possibility of seeing them in the future so thank you guys for getting my hopes up lol. I also loved how through the whole book they just call Ana "hu-man" but at their last goodbye they say her full name, so they remembered the whole time and were just being difficult. It was really sweet though, I could tell that part of their trolling was because they're sirens and really dangerous so they know nobody is going to do fuck all no matter how they act, but in the case of the kids they were trolling out of love. They could have just kept hiding under the water and never showed themselves, Cadius said that's what they usually do, but they actually got impatient if the kids took too long to come back because they just wanted to hang out more!
The bad guy was interesting because it felt like there was a part of him who realized his "mistake" and told his story to everyone as a lesson because he couldn't back out anymore, but then also that totally void warped part that couldn't see reality anymore. Like when the eldritch creature finally comes out of the lake and it's just a collection of body parts stitched together and he cries out "my son!" like... his mind was not in this world anymore. That was the moment he went from "sad dad just trying to avenge his son" to "oh no he's actually completely insane and the whole thing has been a lie." That's what makes me think of the stake too, not even so much the fact that they found it, but the fact that they broke it. I don't think that was part of Wilfred's prophecy and Wilfred wasn't there to see it happen so what if they've messed something up and gone off the "right" path but don't know it yet? Or maybe it is the right path and the sirens just gave us a reminder that that might not actually be a good thing.

Re: Fairfield Frightless
#57I don't remember enough details to explain it well but I feel like the series is building up to like a singular bad guy, something really powerful. The kids already went up against a void creature thing. It feels like every book so far leaves us with one thing that doesn't have an answer. I wish I could remember more lol. The third one has the stake and Corana's story, I feel like the fact that Ana is immune to all sorts of magic might also be one of those things? Actually now that I think about it, I feel like there's a Reason behind all of the kids weaknesses or quirks you know? Since we got Corana's story and Ana's immunity keeps getting brought up, it feels like there's a purpose to it now. I don't know how, but yeah lol.Jade wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 8:42 pmSpeaking of things that are building up though I wonder what you guys think about Corana's backstory, because apparently someone literally took her voice when she was born and that's a mystery that was just apparently never solved, so I wonder if one of the next books will be about finally solving the mystery of who did that. Speaking of Corana though, how about that moment where they're fighting the zombies by the lake? Where her hands are covered in blood and after she takes one down she just signs "next" like a fucking hero. I'm actually really glad we got to see that, she was always kinda feisty and she IS a siren. She got overwhelmed in book 1 when they were up against an entire group of really strong bad guys, but when it's a more even fight we get to see how vicious she can be and I love it, I want to see more.

Re: Fairfield Frightless
#58I agree with this. By now we've seen it with most of them too. Vixel killed a demon, Laurent in demon mode wrecked a bunch of zombies in the graveyard, October raised a small army of corpses and used them to fight their enemies, Corana is tearing zombies throats out, etc. It's a reminder that at the end of the day these kids are monsters and I love seeing it. Didrixe had some trouble and I understand why but when it came to Cadius she wasn't afraid to shoot him repeatedly, and oh yeah we know from book 2 when she bit Ana that she has a venomous bite?! And her snakes also attack whoever she's attacking lol. Wilfred isn't the same as the others but he's a son of the Fates, his power is a little more.... idk if ethereal is the right word. But it's there. They all make Ana look tame by comparison, like yeah she's strong and willing to back up her words with her fists, but several of her friends have killed people before graduating high school so, lol. It doesn't feel out of place either given their situations.Lindsay wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 3:01 pmSpeaking of Corana though, how about that moment where they're fighting the zombies by the lake? I was thinking too more about the Hidden Moon and... I'm just super suspicious of these guys after book 3. It's cool the kids are going to the Halloween town but the fact that they knew weird shit was going on and decided to send Brelekai to supervise and test them? Idk, I could feel that the kids were all annoyed at the lack of communication and I'm with them there, there's serious shit going on and this organization that seems to have a ton of power is just watching, and they want the kids to work with them and still don't give many details. Part of me wonders if they'll end up being bad guys themselves.
Re: Fairfield Frightless
#59Ok I just had a revelation tonight as I was rewatching some old favorite shows (because the world sucks right now and I need distractions). You know who Ana and Didrixe remind me of? These two. I'm mad I didn't see it before. The ice queen popular girl at school who's super ambitious and the one human girl in the entire world who's confident and headstrong but also super awkward.
I hope someone else here has seen the show, I know Isy has because I introduced her. But now that this has clicked I can't unsee it. Tell me I'm wrong.
